"Birthday Cake"
Leading up to Kayci's 4th birthday, she was very excited about her birthday
cake. She drew this just before her birthday. It's a big birthday cake,
complete with lit candles and icing! |

| This was the inside of my Father's Day card this
year. Those are hearts on the left. That's Daddy on the right and my hands.
Notice the fingers. |

"Robber"
Kristi drew a small sketch of what looked like the Hamburglar on a piece
of paper, complete with a black hat and mask over his eyes. Kayci took
a look at the picture and went off to her desk. She returned a short
time later with this. |

"Me and Daddy on a Boat"
This is one of a few pictures that Kayci drew Daddy for Father's Day.
It's Daddy and Kayci on a boat in the water. To our knowledge, this is
the first time she's drawn water or waves. That's also the sun up the
top right corner and a cloud above us. |

"That's Daddy"
This is another Father's Day drawing. That's Daddy. This isn't as detailed
as some of Kayci's drawings, but the lines are a lot more organic than
they have been. Up until this point, Kayci has drawn people as almost
square-shaped. I love the circle hands and feet and the round nose. |

This is an alien. |

"Picture of Daddy"
This is a drawing of a picture of Daddy. Notice the outer square? That's
the photo paper edge. Very clever, and a good likeness. |

"The Alphabet"
Lately, Kayci has been fascinated by numbers and letters. One day she
wanted to write all the letters, so Kristi told them to her and she wrote
them in order. |

"American Flags"
Kayci wanted to decorate the house for Independence
Day, so she drew these American flags, and taped them to the back of the
door. Notice the stars (the plus marks at the top) and the stripes (the vertical
lines).
We had the most festive and patriot house in town thanks to Kayci! |

"Family Picnic"
Initially, I couldn't remember what this picture was, but when Kayci
looked at it here on her website, she reminded me "that's our family
picnic. The person on the right is Kayci sitting on a blanket. That's
Mommy and Daddy sitting on a blanket on the left. We're all under a tree.

"Flyswatter"
This is titled "flyswatter" because that's what she was trying to write
on this page. That's not what this is, however. This is actually a drawing
of the basil plant in her herb garden, complete with leaves and a flower
on the top.
Update: I'm not so sure anymore because when I asked Kayci again what
this was once I posted it to the web, she said, "that's a flyswatter."
So maybe it actually is a flyswatter. |

"Mommy"
This is a drawing of Mommy. What is notable about this drawing is that
Kayci is beginning to try to draw curls as squiggles. The eyes are also
different in that they now have two parts - an outer circle for the eye
and an inner circle representing the eyeball. |

"Smiley Face"
This is a very small smiley face that Kayci drew. Once again, she is
trying out expression. Those are eyelashes above the eyes. |

"House"
This is a house that Kayci drew. Notice the details - the door know,
the chimney, the window panes and something inside one of the windows.
She is also getting very good at writing her letters to form words, most
times with people telling her how things are spelled. |

July 2007
"Kayci" Kayci sometimes leaves pictures that she's drawn on our bedside table
or on our side of the bed, propped up against the pillows. This is a
drawing that she left for Daddy of herself.
Notice the eyelashes, which sometimes distinguish boys from girls, and
the curly hair on top of her head. |

"A Moose and the Number 5"
This past week, Kayci has been obsessed with the number five. I think
it's because a five has so many different types - challenging types -
of lines. She sits and practices and practices and practices. Among the
fives, though, she decided to draw a moose and some other kind of character.
She said she didn't know what the other character was, but she described
in great detail that those are ears and horns on top of the moose's head.
I had no idea she even knew what a moose is. |

"Mommy's pregnant belly"
Kayci has been keeping a secret for the past week - she's going to be
a big sister because Mommy has a baby in her tummy. Mommy's tummy hasn't
gotten bigger yet, but Kayci knows that it will, so she drew this picture
of the baby inside Mommy's tummy. |

"The Chef Lady on Ratatollie"
We had a Daddy & Kayci date to go see the Pixar movie, Rattatollie.
When we got home, she drew this. Not only is it the first time she's
ever drawn long, flowing hair on a girl, but it's also the first time
to our knowledge that she's ever drawn a tongue. Look at the tongue -
look at the crease line down the middle. Also, look at the eyes and see
that they are a lot different that the types of eyes that Kayci ususally
draws. They seem almost expressive - almost feminine. There's also the
fact that there is no body drawn - only a face. That in itself is something
completely different. She ALWAYS draws a body or at least the outline
of a face...
And I mentioned that she's fascinated with 5s this week? She threw a
couple of those on there, too. |
